Captain Dominic A. Addario was born
in a small town just north of Boston, Massachusetts. A child
of the 50's & 60's, he was weaned on "Adventure Theater" on
Saturday morning TV. Errol Flynn and the likes of his Capt.
Blood type characters left an indelible mark upon him. One of
those few good friends one can have in a life time described him once as, "An eternal optimist and classic over-enthusiast".
While recuperating as
a disabled veteran from the Vietnam Era, Dominic was educated as a teacher of history and
economics at Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts. He was
elected to Kappa Delta Pi, an Honor Society for Educators. Then he went to
work on his masters degree in Economics in Public Administration. When
finished with his crutches and cane, like the character Forest
Gump, he went to sea aboard a yacht, as a cook/mate.
Thirteen vessels and three years later he sat for his first, US Coast
Guard Ocean Operators License.
In July of 1987 the
Federal Government of the United States awarded him, "Letters of
Mark", in the form of an
"Admiralty Claim" on a hither to unknown 17th Century Historic
Shipwreck site. He formed a company, now known as JWI, and was eventually awarded
100% ownership to the shipwreck site, "against any and all parties in
the world", by the Federal Courts of the United States.
This award is based upon the, "Merits of our Efforts" and the
"Risks" we as private citizens were willing to take to bring
this, yet untold story to you.
As a sea captain, his travels in the Bahamas,
Caribbean, Central and South Seas of both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans,
had him tracing in the foot steps of many early explorers of the New
World.
Dominic now holds a Master of Inspected Vessels rating from the U.S. Coast
Guard and is a licensed Merchant Marine officer. In 1990 the Rolex
Corporation in Geneva, Switzerland selected his project, The Jupiter
Historic Shipwreck Expedition ™ for inclusion in its publication,
"The Spirit of Enterprise". In 1991 Dominic was recently
inducted into,
The Explorers Club of New York and organization
founded in 1905 to promote exploration and "to break down the
barriers of the unknown".
To date, Dominic is a guest speaker at community events,
corporate functions and cruise ship special events.
